Water quality management for an aquaculture company in Egypt

For an aquaculture producer who was facing severe water source quality problems, our team arranged a site visit where some measurements and water analyses were preformed. The results revealed high pollution by the agricultural activities in the surroundings. A comprehensive water quality management plan was designed and implemented , along with training of the farm personnel on measuring water quality parameters. The continuous monitoring and support from our team resulted in a 30% higher fish growth rate, lower feed conversion ratio (FCR) along with 25% lower mortalities.

Decentralized wastewater treatment system for a farm and B&B in Italy

Our client grows vegetables and raises chicken and sheep on his countryside property, as well as running a B&B during the summer. Since the municipality sewers does not reach his home, we designed a small treatment system for the wastewater from the many activities, which can be operated in a flexible way according to inflow and waste load.

Design of an aquaponic system for a new business in Spain

An aquaponic system for the production of fish and vegetables was planned on a 4200 m² plot of land. After a market study carried out by our partners, the system was dimensioned according to the available space and conditions and to a business plan. The system features 24 fish tanks, 20 media beds and 24 raft beds for a total vegetable growing surface of 2000 m². A food processing plant may be added to the location in the future.

Investigation of groundwater quality problems for an agricultural complex in the western Egyptian desert

After taking on major investments, our client was faced with a very high concentration of iron and manganese in his groundwater. Site visits and sampling campaigns revealed very alarming iron concentrations that can reach up to 200 mg/l which threatened the productivity and sustainability of the whole project.
The reason behind such problem was investigated, and was related to the special hydrogeological settings of the area. Immediately upon the end of the investigation, a water and irrigation management plan was developed to reduce the severity of the problem along with a concept for biological treatment for the highly concentrated iron in the water which is currently being designed.

Feasibility and safety assessment of faecal sludge recycling paths in Uganda

For a project of the Kampala Capital City Administration, we conducted tests and surveys about the faecal sludge disposal and recycling chains. We assessed the potential of several derived products and analysed the safety of each process in terms of the WHO guidelines. In cooperation with local consultants, we drafted legislation about the requirements for sludge recycling processes to be sufficiently safe and hence allowed.
